Proficiency Scale
This is the proficiency scale that I use to evaluate student work on assignments, compared to the Ministry of Education's proficiency scale, directly below it.
It can be helpful to think of the proficiency scale as a cycle. When learning new things, you start at emerging, work through developing, become proficient (the goal), and then you might move on to extending. Then, you can move on to learning another new thing!
Mr. M's Marking Guide
In an attempt to give constructive feedback to students about their performance on assignments, I will be using this language to describe levels of performance. The intent is to encourage students to develop a growth mindset, seeing the
- positive aspects of where they are now, and
- possibilities for growth and improvement in the future.
