Classroom Expectations
In their classroom behaviour, I would like my students to be thoughtful, hard-working, warm-hearted, and cool-headed:
- Be respectful and considerate (thoughtful).
- Be responsible and cooperative (hard-working).
- Be kind to yourself and others (warm-hearted).
- Solve problems peacefully (cool-headed).
Assessment for Learning & Communicating Student Learning
I am in the process of reflecting upon and restructuring my classroom assessment and reporting practices, with my goal being to start assessing student learning and progress in ways that truly reflect the learning happening in my classroom and in ways that support student learning, growth, and progress. Part of this restructuring will involve communicating about student learning in more effective ways than traditional report cards. The following graphic represents what I am hoping to do as I explore new ways of assessing and communicating about student learning.

Mr. M's Marking Guide
In an attempt to give constructive feedback to students about their performance on assignments, I will be using this language to describe levels of performance. The intent is to encourage students to develop a growth mindset, seeing the
- positive aspects of where they are now, and
- possibilities for growth and improvement in the future.
